Juan Carlos Oliva Estrada

Carlos graduated with honors from Tecnológico de Monterrey, Mexico in 2024 where he majored in Biotechnology Engineering. Ever since high school, Carlos nurtured a passion for translational research. As an undergraduate, he developed a keen interest in molecular mechanisms and in his sophomore year he conducted a research internship at Professor Daniela Robles’ lab at the LIIGH, focusing on the assessment of genetic variants and their role in melanoma triggering. Later in his senior year, Carlos served as research intern at Professor Natalie Artzi’s Lab from Brigham and Women’s Hospital, directing effort to the development of gene therapies through nanoparticle-mediated drug delivery for vascular diseases and cancer. Holding onto his passion for translational research and molecular mechanisms, he joined the Barouch lab in April 2025 and will be working with the Virology team. Out of the lab, Carlos enjoys running, DJing and creating content.
