The BCGE Laboratory focuses on developing and implementing computational pipelines for OMICS data analysis and integration to investigate the host-virus interactions and define molecular correlates and mechanisms of action of vaccines. We are using machine learning and AI to analyze and integrate the multi-omics components of the immune response with the ultimate goal of identifying biomarkers associated with disease pathogenesis. Through these integrative and analytical processes, we aim to understand how these biomarker signatures relate to the overall orchestration of the immune system’s response to viral challenges and aiding pinpoint specific immune pathways that are most effective against viral infections. This knowledge can guide the development of targeted therapies that boost these immune responses. Furthermore, vaccines can be designed or modified to elicit these optimal immune responses, providing a tailored defense against current and future viral threats. We are also exploring disease pathogenesis through genomics and epigenetic profiling, with a keen interest in decoding the epigenetic determinants of HIV integration, as well as the maintenance and persistence of the latent HIV reservoir. By combining machine learning and AI, we aim to identify potential new features of the latent reservoir that could serve as predictive biomarkers for HIV rebound following ART interruption.
