Dr. Santra’s primary research interest is the use of nonhuman primates as models for AIDS vaccine development.  She has extensive experience and scientific background in NHP models of HIV/AIDS with special emphasis on the assessment of vaccine-induced T cell responses and SIV and SHIV-challenge studies.  She also has extensive experience in T cell analyses including epitope mapping, T follicular helper cell analyses, cytokine release by ICS assays in both mice and nonhuman primates.  She has served the role of PI on a NIH-NIAID contract for Preclinical Cellular Immunology Core.  She has been leading the NHP core of the Duke CHAVI-ID and CHAVD grants and several program-project grants.
